The weight of his shoulders

Last week, I had a powerful session with Adam, who came in seeking to understand why he’s been feeling so on edge and disconnected from life.

I felt his shoulders.. weighed down with the burden of responsibility, carrying the pressure of providing for his young family.

Caressing his chest …it was in alert-mode, as though he had to stay on guard at all times. His legs were tight, ready for action, as if he was always needed.

When my hands touched his belly, it felt like an armor that kept him from truly connecting with his emotions. His longing for love, care and support.

Adam had completely forgotten about himself – his needs, his sense of self as a man, and the intimacy with his wife that had been lacking for months.

Through our work together, his body reminded him of what he had been missing. And he could figure out how to deal with it.

He’s a loving, caring man, (the ‘nice guys’ who are the also most dangerous) and could be a ticking time-bomb, ready to explode into burn-out. He is taking back control as the head of the household. We ended with a prayer and a tear fell down in the pillow.

A beautiful reminder that our bodies always speak the truth.
